In 1908 a young teenage entrepreneur by the name of Clifford Proctor Blackburn began selling off cuts and rolls of Linoleum from Leicester Market until he entered the army in 1914. His Father William took control of the business which became a registered company in 1938 and had sucessive premises in Churchgate, the High Street in the City centre and Highcross Street. Son and Daughter Betty and Geoff joined the business after their time in the forces during the Second World War and Betty continues to run the office today.
Blackburns Flooring is currently maintained by Betty's son Peter who started work initially as a floorlayer when he was 18 and progressed through the company. When redevelopment was planned the Blackburns Flooring showroom on Highcross Street was vacated to make way for the Gala Casino and Travelodge and a new property was found on the High Street in Syston where trading continues today.
A strong company ethic of quality was established many years ago that continues to this day and many hospitals, schools and businesses around the East Midlands rely on Blackburns quality assured installations for their flooring requirements time and time again.
